About the Founder…
Graeme MacPherson is the founder of So, What happened?, bringing together more than 40 years of military service, historical research, public speaking and battlefield guiding.
An Army Officer, Graeme has held senior leadership and command appointments across the South East. Graeme also spent more than two decades as a senior manager within Local Government, developing extensive experience of working with communities and presenting complex subjects clearly to professional, political and public audiences. His qualifications include an MBA and a BSc (Hons) in Geography, and he is also a qualified mountain expedition leader.
Alongside his military career, he is an Accredited Member of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides, with experience researching, developing and leading battlefield studies in France, Belgium, Italy and the Falkland Islands. Graeme is also an experienced speaker and educator. He has delivered talks to U3A, Probus, historical societies, community groups, schools, military audiences and tour groups, and is a volunteer speaker for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
His educational work has included programmes exploring the contribution of the Indian Army, British West Indies Regiment and Chinese Labour Corps during the First World War.
Through So, What happened?, Graeme combines these different strands of experience around one simple idea: People. Places. Stories. Whether delivering a talk, researching an individual’s military service, exploring local history or guiding visitors across a battlefield, his aim is not simply to describe events, but to explain the people involved, the places where history unfolded and the stories that make the past meaningful.
